i. Introduction of Xi’an

Xi'an, known as "Chang'an", is one of the four ancient civilizations in the world. It is the first capital of the ancient China. It is the capital with the longest period in China's history, the largest capital in the ancient dynasties, and the most influential capital. It is the cradle of Chinese civilization, and the representative of Chinese culture. Xi'an is the starting point of the famous Silk Road. During the Western Han Dynasty, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty dispatched Zhang Qian to the Western Region, officially opening up the "Silk Road" with Chang’an as the starting point and connecting the Eurasian continent. Since then, Chinese embassies, merchants, and envoys of Central Asian, Western, and South Asian countries have been in constant flow. Chinese and foreign commercial trade has developed rapidly, cultural exchanges have become increasingly active, and friendly exchanges have continued to deepen.

l Admission Requirements

1. Nationality

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid ordinary passport.

2. Health condition

Applicants must offer the valid health checklist and the authorized photocopy.

3. Language requirement

1) For Chinese Medium: ≥HSK Level 4 or other equivalent, native speakers of Chinese;

2) For English Medium: ≥IELTS overall 5.5 /TOFEL 75 or higher or other equivalent, native speakers of English.

4. Academic background

All the applicants must have the equivalent degree that has already been recognized by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. (To see whether your university has been recognized please find out at: http://www.moe.gov.cn/ )

Application fee $100 USD or ￥600 RMB

Step 4  Upload all the documents and payment receipt

2) A photocopy of a valid passport;

3) Notarized highest diploma (in Chinese/English or notarized in Chinese/English);

4) Personal statement (Self-introduction, studying experiences and a study plan should be included, no less than 800 words);

5) Recommendation letters (in Chinese or English);

6) Official academic transcript (in Chinese or English or notarized in Chinese/English);

7) Language proficiency certificate (please see language requirement);

9) Award certificates or other supportive materials.

iv. Scholarship

Chinese Government Scholarship

Chinese Government Scholarship is a full scholarship for designated Chinese universities and certain provincial education offices in specific provinces or autonomous regions to recruit outstanding international students for graduate studies in China.

l Eligibility

1. Non-Chinese citizens in good physical and mental health;

2. Applicants who apply for the master’s scholarship should get their bachelor’s degree and be under 35 years old;

3. Applicants who apply for the PhD scholarship should have their master’s degree and be under 40 years old;

4. Applicants are not required to have HSK examination results or Chinese language learning experience because NPU offers classes in English medium;

5. Applicants should have excellent academic marks;

6. Applicants should have strong capacity in scientific research.

Students who are not proficient in Chinese language can apply for Chinese language study for 1 year before

 their main courses. Please be noticed Chinese teaching medium is compulsory after one year Chinese languge course.

5. Two letters of recommendation in English or Chinese by two professors or associate professors

6. A study plan in English or Chinese (not less than 800 words for Master’s degree applicants; not less than 1500 words for doctor’s degree applicants)

7. Notarized Copies of research achievements

8. Certificate of English/Chinese proficiency

9. A copy of a valid passport

10. Physical Examination form

11. Non-criminal Record

Chinese Government Sino-US Scholarship Program

Sino-US Scholarship Program includes a full or partial scholarship provided by Ministry of Education of China in accordance with educational exchange agreements or consensus between Chinese government and governments of the United States, institutions, universities or international organizations.

NPU President Scholarship Program

In order to encourage talented international students’ study at NPU, we set up NPU President Scholarship.

l Eligibility

1. Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens, and healthy;

2. Applicants who apply for the master’s scholarship should have their bachelor’s degree and be under 35;

3. Applicants who apply for the PhD scholarship should have their master’s degree and be under 40;

l Coverage

For the first prize winners, Exemption from tuition fee; providing free on campus accommodation and living stipend (Master student: 2000RMB/month, Doctoral student: 3500RMB/month). For the second prize winners, tuition fees are waived.

Notice: Application fee is 100USD or 600RMB  . Any of the following cases of the winners will lead to the cancellation of the scholarship, and could result in losing tuition waiver if the cases are too serious: (1) absence and leaves (including sick leaves and personal leaves) from lessons adding up to 10 class hours; (2) absence from or cheating on exams; (3) disciplinary punishment of warning or above.
